Cover Versions

First (rejected) and second (approved) iterations, with and without dummy text:

The cat from the first version might still be used on the back cover. Dunno for sure yet.
More soon. Stay with me.

Update: I'm told the book's releasing in August. Apparently the recession's playing havoc with Penguin's printing schedule. (I'm also given to suspecting that 'the recession' could be a euphemism for 'Vinayak's lack of adherence to deadlines'. But hey, at least I'm being honest.) However, keep watching this space. I'll be putting up all the fully rendered interior artwork as soon, gentle reader, as your current Nu Cham Vu fatigue wears off.

oooh, second one is naaice.

and with the disembowelled and (what's the word for violent removal of contents of head?) robot.

though doesn't seem amenable to insertion of text. where would it come? the font looks nice in the first one.

Danke :)

I was actually hoping for a slightly different kind of design where the text comes next to the illustration (on the right or the left, taking up an entire narrow column) rather than the traditional above and below setup. I've been told, however, that they're moving parts of the illustration around to accommodate the design. God knows what'll come of it, but, as the Dude might've said, that's their headache.

that bat on the top right(unless its a figment of my imagination and not yours) looks wicked .. move parts around? it looks so delicately pieced together the way it is.. i echo the previous commenter 'naaaice'!

It's a bat, not a figment, heh. I've actually stuck pretty diligently to the author's descriptions (according to him the bats in the shop, when hanging upside down, are like folded umbrellas).

I'm waiting to see the end result myself. I have no clue how they'll move things around, esp. considering mine is a single composition and not a combination of layers. Watch this space for events as they transpire.

And thanks much! :)

i like how you say 'author's descriptions'. professional. :P

it does look like an umbrella, absolutely. Whats the story of the table with a tail/light holder ? :) I would sure like me one of those..

Woenvu: Ah shucks.

Andy: No story there. I needed a table for the creature, so I just improvised. I'm sure there are designers who can replicate it for you, though. Feel free to poach :)

love it (the one on the right)! and i'm actually rather fond of that blithely innocent manga-cat. though perhaps he'd be rather out of place in this twisted sinister menagerie...

Hehe. That blithe cat's not as innocent as you may think. I hope it's used somewhere!
